Hey Holt Public! As I reflect on the events of the past couple of weeks relating to the death of George Floyd and the subsequent demonstrations across the nation and world, I continue to worry about the well-being of our learning community in the absence of the opportunity to reach out and physically support one another. In a typical hear, we would be able to process these events in person in our classrooms, in our schools, and in our learning community. Unfortunately, doe to the need to social distance, we are unable to be together. While we are not able to embrace or process these difficult times in person, I hope you will find ways to connect with your colleagues, students, and neighbors.
With that, today, John and I enjoyed our conversation with Athletic Director, Renee Sadler. Renee reflected on the amazing Sports Night virtual banquet that the LIONS Club of Holt hosted last week. In addition, John and I discussed information relating to the Township and the District, respectively!

John and I enjoyed our conversation today with Delhi Township, Parks and Rec Director, Mark Jenks. Mark discussed the Delhi Park system and highlighted the food program at the Senior Center. In addition, John discussed the Township and I shared my concern for our learning community. Now more than ever, we need to come together to find peace by talking to one another with empathy and compassion. Please keep an eye on and find ways to help a neighbor, a community member, or even a stranger. As you have heard me say for years, we are better together.

Hey Holt Public!
John and I sure enjoyed our conversation with the Executive Director of the Holt Community Food Bank, Mrs. Marni Swanson today! Marni discussed how the Holt Community Food Bank is supporting the community as well as our mobile food distribution. In addition, John shared that the Township is slowly reopening and that the recycling center is now open from 8am-5pm! Finally, I shared some information about how we are supporting our learning community accordingly. I also shared how impressed I am with our custodial staff. Our buildings have been sanitized and continue to be deep cleaned!

During this podcast, a unique partnership between research and practice is explored. Anne Hornak is a researcher from Central Michigan University and she is working with Capital Area College Access Network leaders, Michele Strasz and Ashley Justice in exploring college going intentions of rural high school students. The podcast is a conversation about findings from a recent study and illustrates how we can better support rural students in higher education.
